REMIX Retreat 2014
It’s easy for me to love God with my mind and with my deeds,
but sometimes I forget to love God with all of my heart. I can be so overly focused on doing things
for God and reading about God, but not engaging with Him. The REMIX Retreat helped renew that in my
life this weekend. The theme was “Climate
Change,” and how we don’t have to be shaped by other people’s climates, but we
can change the environment around us with “The Christ Climate.”
GET SOME GOD-TIME
Whether or not you’re a nature person, there’s something
majestic about being outside and taking in God’s creation. This weekend at the REMIX Retreat at
Tuscarora, I spent some quality time on the Delaware River, communing with God
and being reminded of who I am in Him.
The very first thing we did was watch this video on the
Gospel that really set the tone for the whole event. The Gospel includes:
The PENALTY
of Sin
The PROBLEM
of Sin
The
INVITATION into God’s very near presence
The
ADOPTION as a Child of God
The
COMMISSION to represent God
The
INDWELLING of God living in us
I felt that I was being so reminded of the ADOPTION and the
INDWELLING in my life.
THE ADOPTION AS A SON
OR DAUGHTER OF THE KING OF KINGS
God didn’t just save me from my sin, but He adopted me as
His son. I have become part of His
family. That just really hit me. I’m not simply a Christian, but I am actually
a child of the Most High God. God’s love
for me is so deep that He adopted me. I don’t know exactly how to explain it, but
it just really hit me in a way it never has before.
THE INDWELLING OF GOD
– HE LIVES IN US
Not only did He adopt me, but He lives in me. God didn’t just call me to serve Him by
myself. He didn’t just call me to live
an impossible lifestyle with an impossible task for me to accomplish. He dwells in me. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the
dead empowers my body (Romans 8:11)! He
doesn’t call me to do life alone, but abides in me. Jesus Christ lives in me. Wow.
THIS IS TRUE FOR ALL
WHO ARE UNITED IN CHRIST
And it doesn’t end with me.
This is true for all who are united in Christ. I was at this retreat with people from
different cultures, experiences, and backgrounds. We are all very different, but are united in
Christ. The world would say our
friendship was unnatural. But we are all
adopted as sons and daughters of God, and God lives in all of us. We all came together and worshiped
Jesus. We encouraged each other to
continue to follow Him. We reminded each
other of His amazing love and who we are in Him: children of God in whom He has made His home. Meditating on these truths in my heart really
sank in deep this weekend.
