WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
While Jesus is very clear that Christians must spread the gospel message (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15), there isn’t a particular Bible verse that gives an explicit definition.  The Gospel literally means, “The Good News.”  But good news about what?  Doesn’t that entail bad news?  The Gospel can be understood in these terms:

G – God
O – Our
S – Sins
P – Paying
E – Everyone
L – Life

G – GOD
(Colossians 1:16)
God is at the start of it all.  He is the Author of Life, the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.  God is the one who created us to know Him and to be known by Him.   Humanity lived in perfect paradise living in perfect harmony with God, until we used the same breath He graciously gave us to curse Him.

O – OUR
(Romans 3:10-12)
Our sins separate us from God.  We have all participated in the mutiny.  There isn’t a religion in the world that doesn’t agree there’s something wrong with us.  While there is such a thing as “original sin” that we are born with, all of us willingly break God’s commands; all of us willingly sin.  As such, we deserve punishment.

S – SINS
(Romans 3:23)
Chant, pray, meditate, do whatever you can to get rid of your sins.  But all of this is simply spraying perfume on a corpse; it’s useless.  Sin cannot be removed by good deeds.  Even if we think we live a good life, God tells us that no one is good.  We need a perfect person to pay for our sins.  And this is where our faith is unique.

P – PAYING
(Romans 6:23; 5:8)
We all deserve death and Hell because of our mutiny against God.  So if and when you find a perfect person who hasn’t rebelled against God, have them willingly trade their perfection for your sin.  Clearly, only God can fit this perfect criteria, so He came down as Jesus to pay for our sins.  Jesus died and rose again.  His resurrection is so crucial because it proved that He truly was God, and truly was sinless; Jesus truly did serve as our substitute for sin.  God wrote a check with His life, and at the resurrection the check cleared.

E – EVERYONE
(Romans 10:13)
Anyone and everyone who puts their faith and trust in Jesus will have eternal life and be reunited with God.  You don’t have to say a certain prayer.  You don’t have to do a certain deed.  You don’t have to meet a certain person.  God asks us simply to place our trust in His sacrifice, and we will be saved.

L – LIFE
(Romans 5:1)
Jesus didn’t come to start a new religion.  He came to make dead people alive.  It isn’t about converting your religious affiliation.  If you place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, you can have a new life in Him and be reunited with God.  And that’s why it’s good news.  That’s why it’s The Gospel.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
-Jesus (John 10:10)
